This course is a systematic and critical study of Bonaventure’s Trinitarian Theology. It begins with an examination of the influence of Augustine, Pseudo-Dionysius, and Richard of St. Victor. After an overview of Bonaventure’s own theology, the course will focus on primary texts: The Commentary on the Sentences, Disputed Questions on the Mystery of the Trinity and the Breviloquium. There will be a comparison with the Trinitarian thought of Aquinas, and finally some contemporary indications of Bonaventure’s influence.
