This
course is designed to introduce students to the literature of the early
Church author known in the contemporary world
as pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite. After a consideration of their
Christian Neoplatonic context, the following major works will be
studied:
One the Divine Names, On Mystical Theology, On the Celestial Hierarchy, On the Ecclesiastical Hierarchy. The
course will conclude with an examination of the continuing influence of
these works, particularly in the Middle Ages and in Post-Modernism.
