This course is an introduction to “Admin-istry,”
intended to expose participants to components essential to fulfilling
the myriad tasks demanded of pastors and pastoral
ministers in increasingly complex, technological, and litigious times.
Using Book V (Temporal Goods) of the 1983
Code of Canon Law as its starting point, the course will examine the nine ways indicated by the
Code for the stewardship of the Church’s material resources:
investing, accounting, insurance, observance of the secular law,
budgeting, financial reporting, archives, and reporting. Employing a
rich interdisciplinary collaboration with professionals
from the San Antonio community, the course will also explore time
management, how to conduct meetings, contract law, civil/criminal
litigation (including negligence), fund-raising, pastoral planning,
human resource management, and even self-care.
